The Unveiling

Aimee says....Well, I don't really know what Aimee was saying here, but she always has something to say and it is usually worth listening to. Here she is helping me take down all the paper protecting the cabinets from paint and assorted other finishes. Putting that paper up was a pain, but well worth the effort.
All the appliances in, all the painting done, and all the paper off. Not yet totally finished. A few cabinet doors to put on and pulls and knobs are enroute from Pacific, Wasington. Pendant lamps will be hung over the island later this week. The tile backsplashes are yet to be created - a summer project for us. I am not in a hurry to get the paper off the floor yet as I do not have rugs for the high use areas yet.
Here is the usual view walking in from the garage.
We are not moved in as I am still dealing with dust and grime, but we have used the dishwasher and the range. They work great and I am so happy to have thier services.

  1. Hi Mary,
It looks really good. I am jealous. Would love to redo our kitchen but that is sequenced after the master bath. Still have to finish off the other bathroom when we get back to Whidbey. Do you have your tile yet? Post a picture of it.
    Love,
    Lou

  2. Hi Lou,

Just saw this comment. In the master bath I found a ceramic tile on sale for the shower surround that mimics crema marfil marble. Mainly a golden hue but with some grey shading here and there and a little caramel colored veining. There was no bullnose, so we used an aluminum strip to edge it and the edges of the niche are glass pencil. The shower pan and the floor are golden harvest slate, which is actually quartzite. Light in color. Golds, greys, rusts, some green. A little uneven but lovely on the feet - it is not a knobby feel and never feels slick. Kind of like walking barefoot on the rocks alongside Denny Creek. The ones without the slime, that is! The slate is very reasonably priced compared to so much else out there. I spent less than $1000 for all the tile in this bath (the grout I bought later and my contractor's installation costs were part of his price). Installing was not difficult except for the fact that we used teh 4 inch tile in the shower pan. That requires skill, precision and patience and not all installers will do it. You can get 2" tile in the quartzite, but it is a bit dear.
